Kokila, an imprint of Penguin Random House, commissioned Gaby D’Alessandro to illustrate children’s book, The Cot In The Living Room, the story of a young Dominican American girl in New York City whose parents babysit children of families that work overnight shifts. The book is a celebration of the ways a Dominican American community takes care of one another. As a Dominican American herself, this story hits close to home for Gaby.
